City Park Celebrates Earth Day All Month Long

City Park Conservancy (CPC) has expanded its Earth Day efforts.

On Tuesday, April 22, community members will participate in the annual Earth Day of Service by planting trees throughout the Park. Additionally – on Tuesday, April 8 and Saturday, April 12 – CPC will host trash-pickup days throughout the beloved greenspace as part of Love the Boot Week.

“We are so fortunate to have a dedicated, passionate volunteer base that supports the Park nearly every day,” said CPC Volunteer Manager Melissa Passman. “Earth Month is a chance to focus our efforts on replenishment and litter, which can really pile up, especially in the spring.”

Annually, CPC has an estimated 16-million visitors and combating litter on a daily basis presents a large challenge. At 1,300 acres, City Park is larger than the French Quarter and Uptown neighborhoods combined, making it increasingly difficult to monitor – and pick up – everything left out by visitors. This month, and beyond, CPC asks visitors to do their part by taking responsibility for their own trash and lending a hand by taking out what they bring into City Park.

CPC is a frequent participant in Love the Boot Week (April 5-13), Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s statewide litter-removal and beautification effort. At the 2024 Earth Day of Service, volunteers worked together to fill approximately 187 bags of trash and removed an estimated 150 pounds of large debris from Park grounds and shoreline.
