LPO Swings into City Park for Enchanted Evening - New Orleans City Park

LPO Swings into City Park for Enchanted Evening

On Wednesday, April 24, City Park will once again welcome the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) as they present a free community concert at the Peristyle.

An annual April tradition, Swing in the Oaks offers music enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the award-winning ensemble in the comfort of the Park without the barrier of an admission fee.

“Culture is such a huge part of New Orleans, and the entire region, and we relish the opportunity to expose so many to this incredible orchestra,” said City Park Conservancy President and CEO Cara Lambright. “It gives us great joy to see so many ‘camp out’ for Candide and spring to their feet for Star Wars. It’s truly a highlight of the year.”

The outdoor event begins at 6pm with a special performance by the LPO Academy students. At 7pm, the full orchestra takes the stage for a diverse program ranging from John Philip Sousa to Rebirth Brass Band. Parkgoers are encouraged to bring their own chairs or lawn blankets to the Great Lawn for optimal experience.

“We are excited to return to the heart of our city to welcome thousands for an evening of great music in City Park,” said LPO Executive Director Anwar Nasir. “Orchestral music’s influence is one that has been deeply woven into New Orleans’ musical fabric for centuries, and we are proud to continue this tradition with a celebration of our city’s spirit and culture under the oaks with all members of our community.”

The concert will feature 13 pieces, last approximately 90 minutes with one intermission, and be conducted by Matthew Kraemer. For more information, and to view the full program, visit lpomusic.com.
