On Monday, April 22, City Park Conservancy (CPC) will be picking up at the Park.
Community members 13 and up are invited to participate in the annual Earth Day of Service throughout New Orleans City Park. The dedicated trash-pickup day will spread hundreds of volunteers across eight zones covering the Park’s vast 1,300 acres.
“It’s no secret the Park is huge, and it’s incredibly helpful when we can have a full slate of folks committed to a common goal,” said CPC Volunteer Supervisor Melissa Passman. “Earth Day is a day to demonstrate the need for environmental protection, and it’s heartwarming to see so many people show up to protect the Park.”
Interested volunteers are asked to sign up at here. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who has also registered for the event. Groups require individual-member registration. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes or boots, outdoor- and weather-appropriate clothes, and to bring sun protection. CPC will provide all project-specific tools as well as water and snacks.
Annually, it costs CPC $2.46 million to keep the 1,300-acre grounds beautiful. Throughout this spring, and every day of the year, CPC asks visitors to help by taking responsibility for their own trash and lending a hand by taking out what they bring in.
CPC’s Earth Day of Service is part of Love the Boot Week (April 20-28), Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s statewide litter-removal effort. In 2023, volunteers worked together to fill approximately 300 bags of litter and removed 600 pounds of large debris from Park grounds and shoreline.
