Big Bass Fishing Rodeo

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, City Park Conservancy and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries host the 77th-annual Big Bass Fishing Rodeo (BBR), the oldest freshwater rodeo in the country!

In addition to the bank-fishing-only main event, other activities include:

  • Battle for the Bass (BFTB) – Student fishing competition grades 6-12
  • Boats on the Bayou (BOTB) – Bayou St. John fishing competition for kayakers and other non-motorized vessels
  • Cichlid + Bream Trim – Teams of up to five compete for heaviest 15 stringer of bream, cichlids, and perch
  • Fishtival – Free festival featuring DJ, food, wildlife exhibits, crafts, games, activities, and new and used fishing gear for sale at great prices

The rodeo is a rain-or-shine event – no refunds are given. Wristbands must be worn at all times and presented to the weigh-master at the weigh station. Lost wristbands will not be re-issued. All anglers weighing in for BBR or BFTB must be in line at the weigh station before 11am; BOTB before 10:30am.

Anglers 18 and older must possess a Louisiana fishing license when fishing in any Louisiana public waters. Licenses are available for purchase here.
